Dear Friends,

I have had the opportunity to speak with many of you about the challenges Wesleyan faces in light of the world’s financial turmoil. Today I write to Wesleyan faculty, students and staff to say that we are taking every measure to ensure a prudent and effective response to these fluid events. This will include some serious budget cuts, delays in major facilities construction, and a close look at our priorities for the future. All of us will be asked to make sacrifices. The situation remains highly volatile, and I don’t want to minimize the impact of the economic situation on Wesleyan.

I will endeavor to keep the community updated on our responses by email and through my blog, where I’ve made a recent post on the challenges we face and the commitments we will strive to protect – http://roth.blogs.wesleyan.edu.

As always, I deeply appreciate your efforts to maintain and enhance this environment so treasured by our faculty and staff, our students and alumni. Emerging from these turbulent times will require discipline and perseverance, and I thank you in advance for your support.

Yours truly,

Michael S. Roth
President
